Eric Afriat Doubles Thru Ari Engel

Level 21: 6,000-12,000, 2,000 ante

Ari loses to Eric
Ari Engel (pictured above in seat 9) raises from the hijack to 28,000, and Eric Afriat (standing, left) calls from the small blind.

The flop comes Jspade9spade8diamond, Afriat checks, Engel bets 28,000, and Afriat check-raises to 68,000. Engel moves all in, and Afriat calls with AspadeAheart for an overpair. Engel turns over KheartJclub for a pair of jacks, and Afriat needs his hand to hold to stay alive.

The turn is the 10diamond putting an open-ended straight draw on the board and giving Engel a gutshot draw to a higher straight. But the river card is the 5heart, and Afriat wins the pot with his pocket aces to double up in chips.

Eric Afriat  -  620,000  (51 bb)

Partypoker Players Lounge
Surprisingly, with 19 players remaining and an average chip stack around 585,000 (48 big blinds), action has stalled for the past 20 minutes or so.

As soon as one more player is eliminated, the field will combine to the final two tables, and action will continue this afternoon until the end of Level 22 (shortly after 7:00 pm).

Jonathan Karamalikis raises to 26,000 from middle position and Senthuran Vijayaratnam (pictured) three-bets to 66,000 from the cutoff. Action folds back to Karamalikis, who four-bets to 121,000. Vijayaratnam moves all in for 462,000 and Karamalikis calls.

It's a cold deck for Karamalikis with his KspadeKclub up against Vijayaratnam's AdiamondAspade. The board runs out 6diamond2club2diamond7diamond5diamond and Vijayaratnam claps his hands, pounds his chest and goes to the rail to celebrate his double up.
