Vanessa Selbst Doubles Up Thanks to Her Shoulder Bag
Level 7: 500-1,000, 100 ante
Jonathan Little raises to 2,500 from early position and Vanessa Selbst moves all-in for 8,400 from the cutoff. The player in the small blind starts to think and, as he deliberates, Selbst starts to wrap her headphone cord around her iPod.
The player in the small blind reraises to 20,500 and Little clarifies whether or not the player reraised. Once Little learns it is a raise, he folds.
Selbst stands as she turns over her A
J
and she trails the other player's A
K
. Before the flop is out, Slebst takes her bag and puts it around her shoulder.
The ADK
4
flop isn't a bad one for Selbst. Her opponent has flopped two pair, but she has a diamond draw. The Q
on the turn gives her some additional outs, as she picks up a straight draw.
The river 6
completes Selbst's flush and she takes her bag off and drops it on the ground with a loud thud before she starts to count down her stack for the dealer.
Tablemate Scott Seiver muses, "I really need to start carrying a fanny pack with me so I can dramatically put it on and make sure I win in these situations."
The table continues to joke about the power of the bag when Seiver says, "There isn't even anything in that bag. She just brings it for situations like this."
"It's true," Selbst deadpans. "I almost left it at home today because I didn't think I would need it."

Martin Hanowski Doubles Thru Vanessa Selbst
Level 6: 400-800, 100 ante
With several thousand chips already in the pot and the board reading Q

, Martin Hanowski checks from middle position, Vanessa Selbst bets from the button, and Hanowski calls.
The turn is the 9
and Hanowski bets out 11,700. Selbst thinks a bit, then raises an additional 30,700. Hanowski movs all-in for 87,500 total and Selbst asks for a count. Once she gets an approximate, she doesn't take too long before calling, just barely having Hanowski covered.
Hanowski turns over J
10
for a queen-high straight with a redraw to a flush. Selbst leans across the table to get a better look at Hanowski's holdings.
"I'm drawing dead," she says, then slides her cards into the muck. There is some confusion and Selbst's hand remains face down as the dealer puts out a meaningless K
on the river.
Hanowski scoops the giant pot to double up, while Selbst is left with just a handful of chips heading into the break.
Martin Hanowski - 225,000
Vanessa Selbst - 9,000
