Day 1A Ends with 41 Players at the WPT National Philippines Main Event

Level 10: 500-1,000, 100 ante

DSC_0103-1
There was a strong turnout for Day 1A at the WPT National Philippines Main Event at the Solaire Resort and Casino in Manila. There were 144 entrants in play today and at the end of the night 41 remain. The survivors advance to Day 2, which will take place on Saturday, October 25.

Chief among them is the Day 1A chip leader Delfin Cruz, who bagged up 183,200. Other notable stacks were accumulated by Kelvin Kelvin (179,000), Minh Nguyen Duc (171,800), Iori Yogo (129,800), and Mikal Blumlie (123,800). The familiar faces that advanced were John Hoang and Lacey Jones.

There were a number of big names that fell on Day 1A, and the stretch of play after the dinner break was particularly tough on the pros in attendance. WPT Announcer Mike Sexton was among the players that fired two bullets and didn’t advance to Day 2. The others were Xuan Liu and David Steicke. Jason Mo, who won the High Roller event this afternoon to earn $150,000, was eliminated late in the day. But not as late as Daniel "Jungleman" Cates or J.J. Liu, both of whom were eliminated in the final minutes.

That concludes tonight’s live coverage from the Philippines. Be sure to tune back in on Friday for Day 1B action from the WPTN Philippines Main Event. Another strong turnout is expected, and the field will play ten levels of poker to whittle things down to the Day 2 survivors. Cards will get back into the air at noon local time tomorrow.
