Controversy: Juanda Out; Batista Pissed; Scotty Nguyen Triples Up

Level 23: 30,000-60,000, 5,000 ante

It'll be hard for anything at the final table to beat this as "Hand of the Tournament."

John Juanda moves all in from the button, but he doesn't move any chips forward. He says the words, "All in," and the dealer repeats them to the rest of the table. Unfortunately, Chad Batista (small blind) is wearing headphones and has his sweatshirt hood up over his head, and doesn't hear it. Batista moves all in, thinking he's the first act.

It got a little confusing at this point, but Scotty Nguyen asked if they were both all in, and the dealer confirmed it. Batista realizes that Juanda is all in ahead of him, and clearly wants to take his bet back. But Scotty has moved all in at some point, and is openly laughing at Batista when he realizes what happened. This really pisses off Batista, who knows he made a mistake but is set off by Scotty's behavior, taking joy in his pain.

There is some shouting back and forth between the players, and the floorperson calls Tournament Director Jack McClelland over to regain control of the situation. The ruling stands that all the action is binding, because the dealer repeated Juanda's all in, and it's up to Batista to pay attention to the situation. Even if he didn't hear it, Juanda still had cards in front of him. Batista is clearly pissed, saying players should have to put at least a few chips out in front of them to indicate a bet. But it's too late now.

The cards are finally turned over, and sure enough, Scotty Nguyen is smiling with pocket aces. Scotty is the short stack, and poised to triple up.

Chad Batista:  2club2spade
John Juanda:  Aheart6spade
Scotty Nguyen:  AdiamondAspade

The board comes Kdiamond4heart3diamond10spade5diamond, and there's not much to sweat as Scotty wins the large main pot with his pocket aces, and Batista takes the smaller side pot by beating Juanda. John Juanda is eliminated in 11th place, earning $57,137.

Scotty Nguyen  -  2,920,000
Chad Batista  -  405,000
John Juanda  -  Out in 11th Place ($57,137)

Scotty Nguyen Doubles Through Faraz Jaka

Level 22: 20,000-40,000, 4,000 ante

Scotty Nguyen raises under the gun to 120,000, Faraz Jaka reraises from the cutoff to 300,000, and Scotty calls. The flop comes AheartKdiamond4club, Scotty checks, Jaka bets 375,000, and Scotty calls all in for 351,000 with AspadeJheart (pair of aces). Jaka shows QheartJdiamond (gutshot straight draw), and he'll need to improve to bust Scotty here.

The turn card is the 5diamond, and Scotty gets up from the table and turns around so he can't see the last card. The river card pairs the board with the 5club, and John Juanda loudly says, "Wow!" like Jaka caught his straight on the river.

Scotty slowly turns around, looking depressed but composed, and then the crowd starts laughing. It takes Scotty a moment before he registers the joke, and then he starts laughing too.

But more importantly, Scotty Nguyen survives and doubles up in chips.

Scott Nguyen  -  1,100,000
Faraz Jaka  -  2,500,000

Scotty Nguyen Doubles Through Faraz Jaka

Level 21: 15,000-30,000, 4,000 ante

Scotty Nguyen moves all in from the cutoff for 327,000, and Faraz Jaka calls from the button with Aspade3spade. Scotty shows 4club4spade, and he'll need it to hold to stay alive.

The flop comes Jspade6spade2heart, and Jaka picks up a spade flush draw. The turn card pairs the board with the 2diamond, and Scotty says, "Deuce of spades, baby." That card would make Jaka's flush, but give Scotty a full house.

The river card is the 4diamond -- no flush for Jaka, but Scotty gets his full house (fours full of deuces) to win the pot and double up in chips.

Scotty Nguyen  -  727,000
Faraz Jaka  -  1,938,000
