Roberto Romanello

Level 10: 500-1,000, 100 ante

WPT Champions Club member Roberto Romanello loves his poker. The Montesino is hosting a 48-hour cash game alongside the WPT Vienna Main Event and the Welshman had a seat in that game until 05.00 this morning! Luckily for him his €25,000 win probably resulted in a much easier micro sleep before he started his Day 2 shenanigans. Here is the maestro winning a pot from Jan-Peter Jachtmann.

Romanello raises to 2,200 in first position and Jachtmann calls in late position. The flop is 7club 2club 2heart and Jachtmann calls a 3,200 Romanello bet. The turn card is the Tdiamond and it prompts Romanello to fire a second barrel of 9,500 and once again Jachtmann calls. Finally we see the 6club and Jachtmann pays Romanello for a third time; this time the amount is 13,000 and Romanello shows Kclub Kheart for the win.

Romanello ~ 110,000
Jachtmann ~ 152,000

David Breitfuss Leads WPT Vienna Day 1A

Level 9: 400-800, 100 ante

163 players entered Day 1A of WPT Vienna, and after nine levels of play 73 of them bagged up some chips confirming their return for Day 2 in two days time.

As ever, there needs to be someone with more chips than everyone else and his name was David Breitfuss who accumulated 185,500 of them. The local lad has only ever cashed in live events held in Austria, with his biggest being €24,340 in 2009, so he will be hoping to improve upon that in this event.

The day started off with smiles all around and our celebrity poker couple making a little last longer bet. There are a few Mr. and Mrs. of poker but Tatjana Pasalic and McLean Karr are right up there as two of the most well known. In last years WSOP Main Event and our recent WPT Dublin Pasalic outlasted her beau and was feeling in confident to once again repeat that feat. The forfeit of the last longer bet was for the loser to wear a cat suit for Day 1 of this summers WSOP Main Event. For the third consecutive time Karr did indeed bust before Pasalic, but there was controversy as Karr said the bet was not yet over because it was a re-entry event. Pasalic was desperate for people to support her in her argument that she had won the bet, but given the fact that 100% of the male populous wanted to see Pasalic in a cat suit, she had very little support. Pasalic eventually busted at the hands of Bodo Sbrzesny but the outcome of the bet is still to be decided.

Cat suit or not, McLean Karr will be stumping up the extra cash to re-enter tomorrow and a few more famous faces may well be joining him. Former EPT champion Toby Lewis flopped a set and exited stage left, Alec Torelli wasn't in the building for five minutes, WPT National Series, Denmark, winner Steve O'Dwyer ran pocket nines into pocket queens, WPT Champions Club member Mike Watson ran Kings into Romanello's aces and they were just a few of the top quality pros who bit the dust.

The early chip leader was a local lad named Alex Varga, who chipped up after calling an all-in from Matt Kay. It was a tough decision, as well, with Varga making the call on a flop of Adiamond 8diamond 5diamond whilst holding Tdiamond 3diamond. Kay held Aclub 5club for two pair and Varga became the early chip leader. But Varga obviously didn't like his new found fame and decided to hand them all to Ronny Kaiser and Bodo Sbrzesny, and before you know it he was spotted heading down the escalators of the Montesino casino.

Vanessa Selbst, Farad Jaka, Erik Cajelais, Martin Jacobson and WPT Player of the Year Andy Frankenberger all left the tournament and they were nearly joined by Roberto Romanello. The Welshman lost a huge pot for the chip lead in the most tilting of circumstances. He was all-in three way on a flop of 8club 6club 3x holding Aclub Jclub, Marko Neumann held 9club 7club and the third player held 5club 4club. A cruel 9diamond on the turn handed Neumann the 140,000 pot and the chip lead. The break saving Romanello from steaming away his remaining chips and he eventually recovered to finish the day with 69,000. Neumann, although not the chip leader, finished with 131,700.

Towards the tail end of the competition it was Chris Sly, Marc Gork, Michael Eiler and David Breitfuss battling it out for the top spot. All four players were playing some wonderful poker and Gork even managed to outplay the seemingly out playable. Gork calling a river bluff raise from ElkY with only third pair. Gork may not have won the chip leader contest but we have handed him first prize in the chip castle contest.

Congratulations once more to David Breitfuss and we will return tomorrow at 13:00 (CET) for Day 1B so make sure you join us right here for all of the live updates.

Lacay Loses a Big Flip; Romanello Rubs Him Down

Level 9: 400-800, 100 ante

Ludovic Lacay
Ludovic Lacay raises to 1,6000 in first position, Roberto Romanello makes it 4,100 in middle position before Michael Csango makes it 16,400 from the small blind. Lacay dumps a pile of brown 5,000 chips over the line in the region of 75,000, Romanello folds and Csango calls.

Csango: Qclub Qheart
Lacay: Aclub Kclub

Board: Jclub Tdiamond 4diamond 6club 5diamond

Lacay pounds his fist into the table in frustration.

"Three bet…four bet…and then you have ace-king?" Romanello ponders out loud.

"I don't give a xxxx what you think," Says Lacay.

"But you only have ace-king," says Romanello, "Everytime we play together I wind you up and you bite…I am only having a bit of fun with you," say Romanello.

Lacay is seething!

Csango ~ 105,000
Lacay ~ 70,000

Three Way Carnage

Level 7: 250-500, 50 ante

Roberto Romanello raises to 1,025, Marko Neumann calls as does one other player. The flop is 8x 6x 3x (two clubs) and it kicks off a turn of events that ends up with our new chip leader. Romanello leads, Neumann raises the third player in the hand shoves, Romanello also shoves and Neumann calls. When the hands are turned over all three players have club flush draws.

Neumann: 9club 7club
Romanello: Aclub Jclub
Third player: 5club 4club

Turn: 9diamond

The turn gives Marko Neumann a pair and when the river bricks it hands him a 120,000 chip lead. Romanello, meanwhile, is down to starting stack.

WPT Champions Members: Frankenberger & Romanello

Level 3: 100-200, ante

Fellow WPT Champions Club members Andy Frankenberger and Roberto Romanello are sharing table space over at Table 22. Frankenberger is hoping to clear off the cobwebs after losing to Phil Laak in the Premier League Group Playoffs yesterday. Romanello is looking sharp. He has given alcohol the boot in order to lose a little bit of weight, and as so far shed one stone. He may be losing his weight, but continues to pile on the chips, as this hand demonstrates.

Frankenberger raises to 525, on the button, and Romanello calls in the big blind. The flop is Aspade Kspade 7club and Romanello check/calls a 525 Frankenberger bet. On the turn we see the 2heart and once again the action is check/call; this time for 1,025. The river is the 4spade and both players check.

"Queen high," says Frankenberger.

Romanello flips over Aheart Qheart and takes down the pot.

Also seated at the WPT Champions Club table are Dominik NItsche, Stefan Mattson and Erich Kollman.

Romanello ~ 45,000
Frankenberger ~ 30,000
