Hand #319: Steve Brecher Wins the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star ($1,025,500)

Level 28: 25,000-50,000, 5,000 ante

Liebert raises to 175,000, Brecher moves all in, and Liebert calls with Qspade10spade. Brecher shows Aclub9heart, and he'll need it to hold to win the tournament right here.

The flop comes 6heart6spade2spade, and Liebert picks up a flush draw. The turn card double-pairs the board with the 2club, and Liebert needs a queen, a ten, a six, a deuce, or any spade to win the pot and double up.

The river card is the 4club, and Steve Brecher wins the pot -- and the tournament -- with two pair, sixes and deuces, using his ace as the kicker.

Kathy Liebert is the runner-up, earning $550,000. Since she is a Shooting Star, Brecher collects her $5,000 bounty and her autographed t-shirt.

Steve Brecher wins the 2009 WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star, earning $1,025,500, which includes her entry into the WPT World Championship, and a WPT Bracelet.

1st:  Steve Brecher  -  $1,025,500
2nd:  Kathy Liebert  -  $550,000
3rd:  Chris Moore  -  $291,500
4th:  Tony Behari  -  $230,000
5th:  Thao Le  -  $180,000
6th:  Chau Vu  -  $135,000

Brecher spoils Kathy Liebert's run at multiple spots in the record books. The key moment came with three players remaining in Hand #178, when Brecher was all in preflop with AheartQspade against Kathy's AspadeKspade. The board came KheartJdiamond5club10spade7spade, and Brecher doubled into the chip lead with an ace-high straight. If Liebert's dominating hand holds up there, Brecher would have busted third, and Liebert would have had a 2.3-to-1 chip lead over Chris Moore.

This is the first major tournament victory for Steve Brecher, and he also becomes the latest WPT Poker-Made Millionaire.
