Day 3 RECAP
Level 21: 100,000-200,000, 20,000 ante
Day 3 of the Mirage Poker Showdown was all about making it to the Final 6. Anyone making it past today will be at our new state-of-the-art SET that is sure to raise eyebrows. In contrast to the 13 hour marathon it took to play down to the required 27, it took only 8 hours to decide the final 6.
Those 6 players will be:
David Williams
Devin Porter
Harry Demetriou
Robert Mizrachi
/X213//Stan Weiss/
Steven Frederick
David Williams was in contention from Day 1. He built a huge chip stack allowing him to see more flops. Williams was the chip leader going into Day 2, but finished in the middle of the pack at the end of Day 2. On Day 3, Williams doubled up twice to make it into Day 4. He doubled once against Steven Federick when Williams had A-Q against Federick's A-J and another time against Darrell Dicken when Williams called Dicken's ALL-IN bet with a flush draw and hit.
Devin Porter made it to the Final Table by just getting out of the way. He picked up pots here and there, but really just played conservative and let everyone knock each other out. Porter did double up a few times. One time with pocket Aces against David Williams.
Harry Demetriou entered Day 3 as the chip leader and was able to coast his way into the Final Table by staying out of trouble for the most part. He did have a nice double up against Tam Van Nguyen, when he moved ALL-IN with pocket 8's on a J-J-9 board and Nguyen called with A-K, but missed.
Robert Mizrachi, brother of Michael and Eric Mizrachi, made it to the Final thanks to one sweet river card. If he was to write a book, it might be called "King on the River." Deep into Day 3 right before the dinner break, Mizrachi moves ALL-IN with A
K
and was called by Tam Van Nguyen holding 9
9
. After the flop and turn, Mizrachi can only win with an Ace or a King. With only 6 outs left, Mizrachi caught the K
to vault him into the chip lead for the time being. He ended up finishing the day at 2.01 million, trailing only Stan Weiss.
Stan Weiss had a major double early in Day 3 when he moved ALL-IN with pocket 7's against Casey Kastle and won the million chip pot. Then on the final hand of Day 3, Weiss almost slow played his pocket Aces to death when he limped in under the gun with them and 3 players just called behind him. The flop comes 10
4
3
, Singer moves ALL-IN with 10
4
for top 2 pairs and Weiss called with A
A
. The turn and river was 7
and J
respectively, thus giving Weiss a club flush to knock out Singer. Weiss goes into the Final day as the chip leader with 2.43 million in chips.
Steven Frederick made to the TV Final table with a lot of drama. With 37 players left in the tournament, Frederick with pocket Kings called an ALL-IN from Matt Keikoan. Unfortunately for Frederick, Keikoan had Aces and ended up crippling Frederick down to the smallest stack amongst the 37 remaining players. As the media hovered around Frederick, anticipating him to be the Money Bubble person, but A, Romanello got knocked out 37th and everyone else finished in the money. Frederick went from a possible money bubble person to making it to the final table. The key hand for Frederick on Day 3 was when he doubled up with pocket Kings against Demetriou's pocket 9's.
