Seidel Shines in WPT's First Super High Roller
Level 21: 50,000-100,000, 10,000 ante
While the WPT World Championship played down to the final table, a small tournament with just three tables worth of action got underway in the corner of the Fontana Lounge. Before the day was over, it was drawing as much attention as the Championship itself thanks to its all-star line-up, not to mention its $100,000 buy-in.
The WPT Super High Roller was the first-ever $100,000 buy-in event held in the United States and the bold experiemnt ended up being a big success thanks to an impressive turnout of 29 runners, including Daniel Negreanu, Erik Seidel, Tony G, Vivek Rajkumar, Dan Cates, Justin Bonomo, Erick Lindgren, Eugene Katchalov, Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Phil Laak, and Sam Trickett, just to name a few.
THe star-studded line-up resulted in a star-studded final table with Bonomo, Rajkumar, Negreanu, Lindgren, and Seidel all making the money. The heads-up action was a rematch of another Super High Roller event, as it was an Erick vs. Erik affair with Lindgren and Seidel battling back and forth for the title. At the 2007 Aussie Millions Super High Roller, Lindgren prevailed over Seidel, but 2011 is the Year of Seidel and this time around the Hall of Famer once again ended on top, picking up the title and $1,092,000.
The win brings Seidel's 2011 tournament earnings to over $5.4 million and gives him his fourth big win of the year. Even more important than that, it further cements Seidel's status as one of the best to ever play the game.

Rajkumar folds, and Negreanu thinks for a while and tells Lindgren, "Somehow you're gonna end up with a seven-high straight." Negreanu folds, and Lindgren takes the pot.

Photos: Good Times For Daniel Negreanu
Level 18: 25,000-50,000, 5,000 ante
According to Daniel Negreanu (right), he had never made a royal flush in his poker career. Until now.
In Hand #27, Negreanu turned a royal flush in hearts against Erik Seidel (not pictured). Negreanu held A
9
on a board of K
Q
J
10
8
, giving him an even-more-rare six-card royal flush.
Negreanu was so pleased that he took a photo of the board, and then several of the other players wanted a photo of the board with Negreanu in it.
The good fortune didn't stop with a royal flush for Daniel Negreanu (foreground, right). In Hand #54, Sam Trickett (center left) moved all in with K
Q
, and Negreanu called with K
J
. Trickett was a dominant favorite to double up, but the board came A
2
2
6
A
to give Negreanu a club flush. Sam Trickett was eliminated in eighth place.
In Hand #59, Daniel Negreanu (left) and Erik Seidel (center) played a huge pot. Negreanu four-bets it preflop, and Seidel calls to see a flop of J
6
4
. Negreanu bets, and Seidel calls. The turn card pairs the board with the 4
, and Negreanu studies the board for a moment.
With the board showing J
6
4

in Hand #59, Daniel Negreanu (left) moves all in, and Erik Seidel (center) would think for a while before folding. That pot brought Negreanu up to about 2 million in chips.
