Galen Hall raises under the gun, and Jesse Sylvia moves all in from the hijack for 92,000 more. Hall stands up to get a good look at the other tables while he thinks, almost as if he's checking out the other short stacks, but he isn't at risk and they are still a few spots away from an increase in the payouts.
Hall eventually calls with KJ, and Sylvia turns over 99. Sylvia will need his hand to hold to stay alive.
The board comes Q8662, and the pocket nines hold up for Sylvia to win the pot and double up in chips.
After the hand, Sylvia assumes that Hall was doing some complicated ICM calculation when he was looking around the room, but Hall says no. Hall says he was simply trying to figure out which player would most likely be moved to their table to replace Sylvia if he had busted.
Mack Lee (small blind), Donald Nicholson (big blind), and Galen Hall are all all-in preflop with Hall covering both of his opponents. Their cards;
Lee: AK
Hall: A4
Nicholson: 77
Board: 96284
Lee is the short stack and he is eliminated on the hand, while Nicholson triples up to survive with 300,000. Hall drops to around 700,000 after the hand.
Donald Nicholson - 300,000 (37 bb)
Galen Hall - 720,000 (90 bb)
Mack Lee - Out in 46th Place ($21,840)
Galen Hall had the chip lead at the last break, and gave his thoughts to the WPT tournament from the table.
Hall has since slipped a bit (he's currently sixth in chips with about 270,000), and last night's chipleader Peter Neff has regained the top spot with about 375,000.
The UTG+1 player raises to 1,200 and Galen Hall calls from the hijack.
The flop falls J65 and the UTG+1 player bets 2,100. Hall calls to see the J turn which both players check. The 2 river completes the board and the UTG+1 player checks. Hall bets 7,600 and his opponent calls after about 30 seconds.
Hall tables KJ for trip jacks, topping his opponent's hand to win the pot.
