Kimmo Kurko Eliminated in 4th Place ($81,034)

Level 27: 25,000-50,000, 5,000 ante

Kimmo Kurko

We have lost the man who was our Day 1A chip leader, Kimmo Kurko.

He opens the button and Vladimir Bozinovic moves all-in from the big blind. Kurko wastes little time in calling.

Showdown

Bozinovic: Kspade 9club
Kurko: Aheart Jspade

Board: Kheart Tclub 3heart 3spade Tdiamond

The King on the flop turning King-Nine into a winning hand, just as it did yesterday for Marvin Rettenmaier when he needed it most.  Bozinovic retakes the chip lead from Berende.

Bozinovic ~ 3,500,000

Ziegelbecker Forced to Fold Once More

Level 27: 25,000-50,000, 5,000 ante

Oswin Ziegelbecker
Oswin Ziegelbecker opens the cutoff and Kimmo Kurko is the next person to put him under pressure. He makes it 350,000 from the big blind and the look on Ziegelbeckers face is a picture. He has far from a happy camper and eventually folds once again.

Berende and Kurko Once Again

Level 26: 20,000-40,000, 5,000 ante

Kurko & Berende
Paul Berende opens the small blind and Kimmo Kurko calls in the big. These two olds foes set to tangle once again.

Flop: 8club 5club 3spade

Both players check.

Turn: 4heart

Berende leads for 155,000 and Kurko calls.

River: 5diamond

Berende now makes it 600,000 and it puts Kurko into the tank – deep into the tank. After several minutes Kurko mutters, “you can’t be value betting with eights,” before eventually mucking his hand.

Berende ~ 3,200,000
Kurko ~ 1,400,000

Kurko Shoves Over Berende and Bozinovic

Level 26: 20,000-40,000, 5,000 ante

Vladimir Bozinovic opens the button, Paul Berende three-bets the small blind for 250,000 and Kimmo Kurko slams the hammer down with an all-in bet. Both Bozinovic and Berende run to the hills.

Critical Hand For Berende and Kurko

Level 26: 20,000-40,000, 5,000 ante

We were just waxing lyrical about King Kurko, but it’s time for Paul Berende to step up and take a bow.

Berende opens the cutoff and then calls a 190,000 three-bet from Kimmo Kurko who is seated on the button.

Flop: Kspade Tclub 8club

Berende leads for 145,000 and Kurko calls.

Turn: 6club

Berende is staring at the board; Kurko is staring intently at Berende. The Dutchman takes 380,000 out of his stack and moves them across the line to leave him with around a million back. Kurko calmly calls once more and leaves 2.1 million behind.

River: 8heart

Berende moves 490,000 into the pot.

“I am so confused,” says Kurko before eventually calling.

Berende shows Jclub 9club for the flush and Kurko mucks his hand unseen.

Berende ~ 3,000,000
Kurko ~ 1,200,000

King Kool: Kimmo Kurko

Level 26: 20,000-40,000, 5,000 ante

Kimmo Kurko
It’s all going right for the man who started the Baden ball rolling with the Day 1A chip lead.

Paul Berende opens the button, Kimmo Kurko three-bets the small blind for around 220,000, Oswin Ziegelbecker four-bets from the big blind for 400,000 and the action falls back to Berende.

The Dutchman prods and probes Ziegelbecker before eventually folding.

“I’m all-in,” says Kurko.

The Ziegelbecker hand rapidly entered the domain of the dealer.

Kurko ~ 2,700,000
Ziegelbecker ~ 900,000

Marvin Rettenmaier Eliminated in 5th Place ($59,496)

Level 26: 20,000-40,000, 5,000 ante

DSC_0257-2

The fans favourite and WPT Champions Club member, Marvin Rettenmaier, has been eliminated in fifth place.

Kimmo Kurko opens the button, Rettenmaier moves all-in from the small blind and Kurko makes the call.

Showdown

Kurko: Aclub Qclub

Rettenmaier: Kheart Qspade

The flop brought some sparkle to proceedings – Jdiamond 7diamond 5diamond. Then the turn brought about a possibility of a split pot – Tdiamond. The river was red, but it was not the suit that Rettenmaier needed – 3heart. The German, and one of the favourites for the titles, was out. It was not going to be a case of three of a kind for the Mad One here at Baden.

Kurko ~ 2,100,000

Adrian Appman is Crippled

Level 26: 20,000-40,000, 5,000 ante

It looks like Adrian Appman may well be the bridesmaid tonight. He shoved the button with Adiamond 7heart and Kimmo Kurko called with Qclub Qheart. The board ran out Tspade 8diamond 3spade 6heart 7diamond and Kurko doubled up. Appman was left with 25,000 chips.

Split Pot

Level 25: 15,000-30,000, 5,000 ante

Kimmo Kurko open shoves from middle position only to see Oswin Ziegelbecker re-shove in the cutoff. The button and blinds both fold in turn and the cards are turned onto their backs.

Kurko: TheartTspade
Ziegelbecker: TclubTdiamond

“I was hoping for nines,” half-jokes Kurko, much to the amusement of the rest of the table

The dealer gets to work putting the community cards into play and by the river they display Kspade6diamond2heartKheartAheart and the pot is split.

Kurko Puts Berende to the Test

Level 25: 15,000-30,000, 5,000 ante

Paul Berende opens the hijack and Kimmo Kurko moves all-in on the button. Marvin Rettenmaier tank-folds in the small blind and Oswin Zeigelbecker folds in the big.

Berende has a pained expression on his face. He starts to curl one of his curly hairs, as he ponders his decision. “I think it might be too much.” Says Berende.

The floorman counts, and it’s 370,000. It was too much as Berende mucked his hand.
