The Winning Mindset

Level 27: 50,000-100,000, 10,000 ante

Kara Scott just taped an interview with mindset coach Sam Chauhan, who is in the audience today cheering on his client David Williams.  Chauhan has had a remarkable success rate with his poker clientele, which includes Antonio Esfandiari, Josh Arieh, Paul Wasicka, Gavin Smith and Phil Hellmuth, who busted out of this event in 7th place yesterday.

Chauhan was on the rail all day yesterday watching Williams and Hellmuth and, though Hellmuth came up just short of the televised final table, his gracious exit from the tournament area might be a sign that Chauhan's methods are having an impact on him.  Though, considering some of the words he exchanged with Shawn Buchananan, Eric Baldwin and David Benyamine over the course of Day 6, Chauhan might still have his work cut out for him.

Williams, on the other hand, seems to be taking Chauhan's words to heart and seems to be one of the most focused players at this final table.

Hands #196-197: Phil Hellmuth TV Bubbles in 7th Place ($152,856)

Level 27: 50,000-100,000, 10,000 ante

Hand #196  -  David Williams raises from the small blind to 350,000, and David Benyamine calls from the big blind. Both players check to the turn on a board of Jspade5diamond3club3spade, Williams bets 400,000, and Benyamine folds. David Williams takes the pot.

Hand #197  -  Phil Hellmuth moves all in under the gun for 505,000, David Williams calls from the button, and David Benyamine thinks for a while in the small blind before he folds.

Hellmuth shows Kspade10diamond, but he'll need to improve to survive against Williams' AdiamondJspade.

The board comes 8club7heart6spade6diamond7spade, and Hellmuth flops a gutshot straight draw but improves no further. When the river card falls, Hellmuth backhands his iPod against the wall and then smiles, shakes the hands of the other players, and tells them as a group, "Well done."

Phil Hellmuth  -  Out in 7th Place ($152,856)

As he's leaving, Hellmuth tells Eric Baldwin that he's going to ask him later about the hand where Hellmuth folded ace-king. Hellmuth says, "I don't want you to tell me what you had. I just want to know if you had aces or kings."

Hellmuth was one of the last two challengers to Faraz Jaka's lead in the WPT Player of the Year race. Shawn Buchanan is the last player in the tournament with a chance to catch Jaka, and he'll need to win to do it.

Hands #194-195: Phil Hellmuth Wins a Very Small Pot

Level 27: 50,000-100,000, 10,000 ante

Hand #194  -  David Williams raises under the gun to 225,000, winning the blinds and antes.

Hand #195  -  Phil Hellmuth limps from the cutoff for 100,000 and says, "It's not eight-nine of hearts this time." Eric Baldwin completes the small blind, and David Williams checks his option in the big blind.

The flop comes Kspade9spade4club, the blinds check, Hellmuth moves all in for another 100,000 or so. Baldwin and Williams both fold, and Williams shows Qclub5heart.

Hellmuth shows one card -- the Kclub -- as he collects the pot. Hellmuth says, "This way I win the extra 50,000 from Baldy there."

Benyamine says, "That's the only thing you've won from him."

Hands #192-193: Billy Baxter Doubles Through John O'Shea

Level 27: 50,000-100,000, 10,000 ante

Hand #192  -  Eric Baldwin raises from early position to 250,000, winning the blinds and antes. Baldwin shows K-K as he collects the chips.

Hand #193  -  Phil Hellmuth limps from the button for 100,000, John O'Shea moves all in from the small blind, and Billy Baxter calls all in from the big blind. Hellmuth starts laughing, and folds.

O'Shea shows 3diamond3spade, but he's dominated by Baxter's AclubAheart. Baxter is the shorter stack, so he's looking to double up here.

The board comes Jspade7heart2club6diamondKdiamond, and Baxter wins the pot with his pocket aces to double up in chips.

Billy Baxter  -  2,500,000  (25 bb)
John O'Shea  -  1,100,000  (11 bb)
Phil Hellmuth  -  205,000  (2 bb)

Hellmuth says he had 9heart8heart, and adds, "If I move in, they can go call, call, and check it down. When I limp, it gives me options If Billy doesn't have a hand, I'm a favorite over two threes."

Hand #191: Phil Hellmuth is Frustrated, But Still Here

Level 27: 50,000-100,000, 10,000 ante

Hand #191  -  Shawn Buchanan moves all in from the small blind, and Phil Hellmuth (big blind) says, "Do you know how frustrated I am right now? I wait three to four hours for one ace-king, and I have to fold." (The ace-king is referring to an earlier hand, not this one.)

Hellmuth rants some more, and then folds. Hellmuth says, "It's still not over. All that abuse, and I'm still here."

Level 26: 40,000-80,000, 10,000 ante

Hand #175  -  John O'Shea raises from middle position to 235,000, Eric Baldwin reraises from the button to 550,000, and O'Shea folds. Baldwin takes the pot.

Hand #176  -  Phil Hellmuth raises under the gun to 165,000, John O'Shea moves all in from early position, and Hellmuth folds. O'Shea takes the pot, and Hellmuth knocks over his own chips in frustration. There is now a messy pile of chips in front of Hellmuth.

Hand #177  -  Billy Baxter raises under the gun to 200,000, winning the blinds and antes.

Hand #178  -  Phil Hellmuth completes the small blind to 80,000, and John O'Shea (big blind) asks for an count of Hellmuth's chips. Hellmuth says, "825,000," but O'Shea still wants an exact count.

Hellmuth stacks his chips and counts them, and it looks like he was exactly right with the amount of 825,000. Hellmuth says, "What, you didn't believe me?"

O'Shea moves all in, and Hellmuth folds. John O'Shea takes the pot.

After the hand, Hellmuth once again knocks over his chip stacks into a messy pile.

Hand #95: More Table Talk From Phil Hellmuth

Level 24: 25,000-50,000, 5,000 ante

Hand #95  -  Phil Hellmuth raises from the cutoff to 150,000, Billy Baxter calls from the small blind, and Eric Baldwin moves all in from the big blind for 930,000. Hellmuth says to David Benyamine, "Thank God I folded that hand, David. I was not kidding, I almost shipped it."

Benyamine says, "I'm glad you didn't. I didn't want to hear that speech -- 'I just knew that I would hit it.' " (Benyamine is quoting what he thinks Hellmuth would say.)

While he's talking, Hellmuth counts out the additional 780,000 from his stack, but hasn't made an indication that he's going to call.

Hellmuth looks to Baldwin and says, "I can't say anything, because Billy's in the hand." Hellmuth folds, and Baxter folds behind.

Hellmuth says to Baldwin, "You know what I folded for you, buddy? Ace-queen." Baldwin says, "I think you're in the mood to fold right now."

Benyamine makes a comment about how long that hand lasted, and Hellmuth says, "I fold, and now you needle me?" Benyamine says, "How am I needling you? I showed you kings when you had ace-ten."

Hellmuth says, "I had ace-queen here and needed to think. Half the table would've called there. Buchanan would've called there."

Hand #94: Phil Hellmuth's Epic Banter With David Benyamine

Level 24: 25,000-50,000, 5,000 ante

Hand #94  -  David Benyamine raises from middle position to 140,000, and Phil Hellmuth reraises from the button to 390,000. Benyamine stops to think, and Hellmuth says, "I know you think I'm weak."

Hellmuth's chip stack is a mess (not in even stacks), and Benyamine asks for a count of his stack. Hellmuth has about another 1.85 million behind. Hellmuth says, "I know you think that if you move in, you will win the hand." Hellmuth offers to show his cards if Benyamine folds.

Benyamine says, "It's not about you, it's about my hand." Benyamine moves all in.

Now Hellmuth asks, "How much do you have left?" Benyamine says, "More than you."

Hellmuth says, "I don't know why you want to do this." Benyamine says, "We have the same hand." Hellmuth says, "We do not have the same hand." Benyamine says, "Why? Do you have three of them?"

David Williams interjects and says, "I've never seen a hand like this with so much giggling." Hellmuth and Benyamine are bantering like it's a home game instead of the final table of the WPT World Championship.

Hellmuth asks for a count of Benyamine's chips, and he has about 2.6 million. Hellmuth says, "I'm this close to shipping it. I know you have queen-deuce." Benyamine says, "I don't have queen-deuce. I have a good hand."

Hellmuth eventually folds, showing Aheart10heart, and everyone at the table bursts into laughter. Hellmuth asks, "What are you laughing at?"

Williams tells Hellmuth that he will bet $500 that Benyamine has a better hand, and Hellmuth agrees to the bet at $400. Benyamine says, "You're right, I don't have better than an ace," and he shows the Kheart. Benyamine then flips over his other card, the Kspade. Pocket kings. David Williams wins the side bet against Hellmuth.

Benyamine takes the pot and says, "Phil, you just want your TV time." Hellmuth says, "No. The way I'm running, I know the ace is gonna come."

After the hand, Benyamine tells David Williams, "Next time, I'll call the clock."
