Day 1A Ends with 63 Players and Two Over 200,000

Level 10: 500-1,000, 100 ante

The action was brisk on Day 1A at the World Poker Tour Lucky Hearts Poker Open here at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel in Hollywood, Florida as the starting field of 153 players was sliced in half with only 63 remaining at the end of the night.

Your overnight chip leader is Raj Vohra with 262,700 and he is joined at the top by David To with 260,100. Other members of the six-figure chip club include Ben Zamani (154,000), Matt Giannetti (150,600), Jonathan Roy (141,500), Ray Qartomy (134,700), Sean Posner (131,300), Mike Beasley (117,100), Ravi Raghavan (103,200), and Tommy Vedes (102,100).

Some notables that didn’t make it through today, but should be back to try again tomorrow, include Adam Levy, Harrison Gimbel, Micah Raskin, Darryll Fish, Guillaume Darcourt, Victor Ramdin, John Spadavecchia, Marsha Wolak, Allen Kessler, and WPT Season X Player of the Year Joe Serock.

The remaining field from today has tomorrow off, and they will return for Day 2 action on Sunday, February 10. They will be joined by the survivors from tomorrow’s Day 1B field, which is expected to be a big one. The size of this year’s Lucky Hearts event will surely top 300 players.

Check back in on Saturday at noon ET for 10 more levels of poker action and a rush of new faces in South Florida, as players will be allowed to enter and re-enter through the end of Level 4 tomorrow. The WPT Live Updates team will be here to bring you all of the action.

Justin Zaki Busts One

Level 10: 500-1,000, 100 ante

The cutoff raises to 2,200 preflop and the small blind reraises all in for 21,900. Zaki calls in the big blind and then the cutoff goes into the tank. He eventually mucks and the two final players then flip over their cards:

Zaki: AspadeQheart
Small Blind: Adiamond10heart

Board: Aclub8diamond7diamond4spadeKspade

The small blind is eliminated and Zaki is up to six-figure territory after the hand.

Three-Way All-In

Level 10: 500-1,000, 100 ante

Three players got involved in a pot where two short stacks were all in preflop against Brian Hawkins. Their cards:

Hawkins: AspadeAheart
Fortunate One: 4diamond4spade
Unfortunate One: Q-Q

Board: 8diamond4club2spade6club5heart

Three-of-a-kind fours wins the day and the player holding queens is busted from the tournament. Hawkins is still OK with 31,000 but he is just barely above where he started earlier today.

Brian Hawklins - 31,200 (39 bb)

Giannetti: "This could be the weirdest hand I've ever played."

Level 9: 400-800, 100 ante

After two players limped for 800, a woman raises from late position, and Matt Giannetti reraises from the button. The two limpers fold, and the woman four-bets it to 8,000. Giannetti calls.

The flop comes Kheart7diamond3heart, the woman bets 5,000, and Giannetti calls. The turn is the 2club, the woman checks, Giannetti bets 8,000, and she calls.

The river is the 9spade, she checks, Giannetti bets 11,000, and she check-raises all in for 34,700. Giannetti goes into the tank, saying something like, "This could be the weirdest hand I've ever played." After a couple of minutes, Giannetti calls.

The woman shows 6club6heart for a pair of sixes, and several people at the table do a double-take, clearly expecting a stronger hand. Giannetti turns over Kdiamond10heart for a pair of kings, winning the pot and eliminating the woman from the tournament.

After the hand, Allen Kessler and Dana Kellstrom both say they were certain the woman had pocket kings and had flopped a set. (Kessler also provided the betting action for this hand.)

Matt Giannetti  -  126,000  (157 bb)
