Down To Final Six Players at the World Poker Finals

Level 23: 20,000-40,000, 4,000 ante

Day 5 of the Foxwoods World Poker Finals By Tom Bostic The final ten gathered at the final table at noon today to play down to what would be one of the tougher World Poker Tour final tables in recent memory. Three players have already been here before, combining for a full 13 final table appearances. David “The Dragon” Pham tops the list with six, Mike “The Mouth” Matusow has four, but only Jonathan Little (three final tables) has a WPT title. The others include a online heads-up specialist, an east coast preliminary event crusher, and a very solid semi-professional from New York. Unfortunately for the four others, their television debut was cut short during the course of the day. Tom Nguyen was eliminated in 10th place when his top pair with a flush went down to the turned straight of Dmitri Haskaris. It would be another hour and a half before the next elimination when a short stacked Henry Doiban was sent home after his pair of tens failed to hold up against the AclubQclub of Jonathan Jaffe. On the 67th hand of the Final table Jonathan Jaffe raised from the cutoff to 72,000 and Dimitri Haskaris reraised from the small blind to 172,000. Jaffe called and they saw a flop of Kspade10spade9diamond. After a series of raises Haskaris was all in for a huge 3.7 million dollar pot with a set of tens. However, Jaffe showed QheartJspade for a flopped king-high straight. The turn and river failed to improve Haskaris and he was eliminated in 8th place. This was the biggest pot of the tournament and helped secure Jaffe’s lead going into tomorrow’s final table. Anthony Newman has the distinction of being the dreaded TV final table bubble finisher. Newman hand played very solid for the past two days, but just could not seem to get anything going this afternoon. On the short stack for most of the day, Newman was all in with pocket fours against the KspadeQspade of Jonathan Little. The board came Qheart9heart5heartAdiamond2heart and Newman was eliminated in 6th place, earning 85,283. Tomorrow’s action will begin at 5pm ET. Here are the official seating assignments and chip counts going into the final table: Seat 1: David "The Dragon" Pham - 2,038,000 Seat 2: Jonathan Jaffe - 4,131,000 Seat 3: Jonathan Little - 2,021,000 Seat 4: Charles Marchese - 1,718,000 Seat 5: Jack Schanbacher - 1,592,000 Seat 6: Mike Matusow - 816,000 Join us tomorrow for what has shaped up to be a memorable final table as Matusow, Pham, Little, Jaffe, Marchese, and Schanbacher battle it out for the $1,120,310 first place prize.
