Day 3 Recap

Level 28: 400,000-800,000, 100,000 ante

Massacre - that is what you call it when 269 players out of 473 bust out in five levels on Day 3 of the WPT World Championship. The action was furious right from the beginning as 63 players dropped in the first level alone. That pace didn’t let up as 70 in level 7, 40 in level 8, 50 in level 9 and 46 players didn’t see the light of Day 4 as level 10 came to an end at 8:55pm. 204 players will wake up on Friday morning refreshed and relieved. Relieved that they survived one of the toughest and biggest fields in WPT World Championship history. Refreshed and ready to go because they're still in contention for the title of WPT World Champion and the first place payout of $3,760,165. The pros that didn’t make it past Day 3…Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Lyle Berman, Ted Forest, Minh Ly, Chau Giang, Michael Mizrachi, Nam Le, Alan Goehring, Bill Gazes, Mike Matusow, John Phan, Kenna James, Hoyt Corkins, and Scott Fischman and defending champion Tuan Le. Tournament Director Jack McClelland knew what he was going for as he gave every player 50k chips to start with and set the levels at 90 minutes. With that many chips and time, the pros are talking about this tournament as being one of their favorites, if not one of the most prestigious. The pros that survived Day 3…Johnny Chan, Doyle Brunson, Todd Brunson, Arnold Spee, John D’Agostino, Men “the Master? Nguyen, Brad Berman, Phil Hellmuth, Amir Vahedi, Allen Cuningham, Tony G. Juha Helppi, Carlos Mortensen, Barry Greenstein, David Williams, Erick Lindgren, Vinny Vinh, T.J. Cloutier, Mark Seif, Paul Darden Jr., Brad “Yukon? Booth and Chip Jett. Speaking of Chip Jett…he went head to head against WPTonline winner Anh Van Nguyen twice in 30 minutes and busts out the online satellite winner. At around the 8pm mark, Nguyen doubled up through Jett when a King came on the flop to give him top pair. 30 minutes later, Nguyen tested lady luck again and went ALL-IN with Kheart9diamond and ran into Chip Jett’s pocket Rockets (Aces). Women are holding their own against the men as notable pros – Mimi Tran, Evelyn Ng, Ana Galajian, Jennifer Harman, Lily Elviro, newcomer Vanessa Rousso and new sensation Erica Schoenberg are all still alive and kicking their way onto Day 4. Erica Schoenberg’s a former professional blackjack player, model, math champion, pro-beach volleyball player and can teach you a thing or two about kickboxing. Yes, the woman is talented but most of all right now, she’s having the time of her life playing poker professionally and doing quite well. Schoenberg’s been playing for a year and was the “Last Woman Standing? at the Foxwoods Poker Classic. She’s survived two days of play and looks to prove to the men that looks aren’t everything when you’re a math champion. Add to that - charisma and poker savvy and it all equals out to a rising star. Check her out in our tournament videos. Oscar-nominated Hollywood acting legend James Woods is also in the mix with 341,700. The MENSA member started off the day with 61,050 and his chip stack has fluctuated all day but he's built it back up to settle in the top twenty. A former model shall lead the day. Patrik Antonius is Day 3 chip leader with 554,500 in chips. The poker pro from Helsinki, Finland has finished "in the money" in 3 WPT events and in 3 WSOP events. He’s sitting pretty and really to battle it out on the felt with legends, WSOP Champions, millionaires, WPT Champions, former models and a Robin Hood…that’s the resumes of the players left in the WPT World Championship. Come back tomorrow at 12 noon (PST) for all your exclusive live updates, videos and photos right here at the WorldPokerTour.com.

Chip Jett holds the ABSOLUTE NUTS....

Level 28: 400,000-800,000, 100,000 ante

With a board of AspadeJspadeQspadeKspade9diamond and about 90k in the pot, Player (mid position) checks to Chip Jett (late position) and Jett bets 50k. Player calls and Jett shows 10spade8spade. Jett had flopped a flush, then turned a royal flush and can't be beaten at that point. The only question is "how much can Jett get the guy to call?" Apparently 50k into a 90k pot is just about right.
