Jonathan Little bets 300 preflop from early position and that leaves him 55,500 behind. Seat 9 raises 1,900 more, which leaves him 19,200 behind. Little then reraises 5,400 more and Seat 9 goes into the tank. The price of poker is now 7,300 preflop and Seat 9 decides he does not want to pay the price of admission. Little adds even more chips to his massive stack after the hand.

Acting Out of Turn

On a board of Q933, Josh Ladines bets 1,000. Van Nguyen makes the call and it is up to Matthew Nichol. Scott "SCTrojans" Freeman announces raise out of turn, but now must wait for Nichol to make his decision. Nichol was originally going to call, but now decides otherwise. Freeman still raises to 2,500 and gets Ladines to fold. Nguyen calls and the river is the 6. Freeman bets 5,500 and Nguyen folds. Freeman is now up to 25,000.

Giardano vs. Lam
Level 40: 1,000,000-2,000,000, 300,000 ante
Peter Giardano bets 350 from early position, the button calls, and Tuan Lam calls from the big blind. The flop rolls out J62 and Tuan bets 200. Giardano calls and the button folds. The K peels off the deck on the turn and Lam fires out 1,500. Giardano raises 4,000 more and Lam goes into the tank. He eventually makes the call and the 10 hits on the river. Both players check and Lam flips up KQ. Giardano mucks and Lam now has 34,500. Giardano is down to 16,000 after the hand.

Playing Poker

Tim West and Tim Adams check a K97 flop, and Seat 6 bets out 775. West thinks, then makes the call, bringing action to Adams. Adams takes his time, then carefully moves out 3,500. Seat 7 reluctantly mucks his cards and West goes into the tank. He finally decides to muck, sending Adams a nice pot for the early stages of the tournament.

Joseph Elpayaa Takes a Hit

With 3,500 in the pot and 9327A on the board seat five fires out 3,000 from the small blind. Joseph Elpayaa goes into the tank for a minute and then eventually makes the call. The small blind turns up AK and Elpayaa mucks his hand.

Kenna Grabs Some Chips

On a board of JJ996 with 2,000 in the pot Kenna James bets 1,275 from the small blind and the button goes into the tank. The button eventually calls and Kenna flips up QJ. The button mucks and Kenna takes down the pot, he now has 32,000.

My first level at the North American Poker Championship went well. I got really lucky when I got it in bad with bottom set against Rhynie Campbell's top set and another players pocket aces. I spiked quads on the turn and now I'm sitting with 54,000 and the chip lead. It's a good thing I played online this morning and got all of my bad luck out of the way. I played about 10 heads up matches and lost 8 of them. Hopefully my good luck continues here and I can avoid the bad beats from this morning. My table isn't the greatest draw in the world but it's filled with a bunch of calling stations so I'll probably just lay back and value bet my big hands. I'll keep you updated on my progress throughout the day.

Many Canadians are hockey fans, and for one dealer it led to some trouble. Two players were discussing hockey during a hand, and the dealer, clearly a major hockey fan, erupted into a passionate monologue about hockey. This angered several players and after their concerns were voiced, the dealer realized her error and quietly continued her job.
