Mike Matusow Traps With Kings

Level 5: 300-600, 75 ante

In the last hand of the last level, Mike Matusow limps from middle position for 400, and the button moves all in with a fairly short stack. Matusow calls with KdiamondKheart, and the button turns over JclubJheart. The board comes Qdiamond9club6diamondQspade4diamond, and Matusow's pocket kings hold up to win the pot, and he now has about 68,000 in chips. After his opponent leaves, Matusow discusses the hand with Matt Lefkowitz. "I limped with kings and trapped him perfectly. I pull that move about once every two hours."

Phil Ivey Busts a Player to Increase His Chip Lead

Level 4: 200-400, 50 ante

This hand occurred late in the last level. After a flop of 9spade3spade3club, Barry Leventhal bets 1,500 from middle position, and Phil Ivey raises from late position to 6,000. Leventhal thinks for a moment before he calls with 9club7heart (two pair, nines and threes). Unfortunately, Ivey flips over Kheart9diamond for the same two pair with a higher kicker, and Leventhal needs an ace, a nine, or a three to chop, and a seven to win. The turn is the 10heart, the river is the Kspade, and Phil Ivey wins the pot with two pair, kings and nines. Ivey builds his stack to about 145,000, increasing his chip lead over the rest of the field. Barry Leventhal is eliminated from the tournament.

Ted Forrest Has a Good Couple of Minutes

Level 4: 200-400, 50 ante

Less than ten minutes ago, Ted Forrest was down to about 6,000. But he's had a pretty good run since then. He doubled up a few hands ago with pocket fours against another player's A-10. That hand was reported earlier, but we've just learned that Forrest received some additional luck -- if the player with A-10 didn't push, another player would have called Forrest with pocket eights and busted him. In this hand, the flop comes 8heart7heart4club, and Ted Forrest moves all in from the big blind for 11,700. Ryan Young thinks for a moment before he calls from middle position with 9club8spade. Forrest shows Jheart4heart for a pair of fours with a flush draw, and he'll need to improve to stay alive. The turn is the 2club, but the river is the 4spade. Ted Forrest rivers trip fours to win the pot and double up to more than 26,000 in chips. A heck of a comeback from 6,000, but he's still well behind the average stack of 42,000.
