Young Check Calls 51,000 Off To His Opponent

Level 8: 600-1,200, 200 ante

A player in middle position raises to 4,000 and Ryan Young calls from the big blind.  The flop comes down Qspade7spade2heart and Young checks it over to the original raiser who bets 4,000.  Young makes the call.

The turn is the 2club and Young checks again.  Hit opponent bets out 12,000 into the 16,000 pot and Young matches the bet.

The river brings the 7diamond and Young checks for the third street in a row.  His opponent fires out yet again, this time for 35,000.  Young calls him down for the fourth time in the hand.

His opponent shows QheartQdiamond for the best possible full house.  Young mucks his cards and is now down to around 55,000.

99 Players Remaining

Level 8: 600-1,200, 200 ante

The field is down to the final 11 tables, as there are 99 players left in the tournament. An announcement is made, inducing some applause from the players, but there is still a long way to go. Another 72 players need to bust before Day 2 is complete, and the 27 who survive to Day 3 will be the only ones who finish in the money.

Nick Schulman Eliminated

Level 8: 600-1,200, 200 ante

A player raises from middle position to 3,500, the next player reraises to 10,200, and Nick Schulman moves all in from late position for about 38,000. The first raiser folds, but the other player calls with AclubKdiamond, covering Schulman's stack. Schulman shows JheartJspade, and he'll need it to hold up to stay alive.

The board comes Kdiamond10heart5heart8diamond2spade, and Schulman's opponent flops a pair of kings to win the pot. Nick Schulman is eliminated from the tournament.

Don't Mess With Bernard Lee

Level 8: 600-1,200, 200 ante

Bernard Lee raises to 3,300 from the button and the big blind calls. The flop comes 9heart3spade2club, and both players check. The turn is the 7heart and the big blind checks to Lee who bets 4,600. The big blind calls and the river is the 3club. This time the big blind leads out for 6,000 and after a few minutes in tank, Lee calls.

"Nice call" says the big blind as he turns over Jheart8heart for the busted flush draw. Lee shows Aspade5club for ace-high. Lee rakes the pot and brings his chip count up to 150,000 this hand.

Kings, Kings, Kings, Kings

Level 8: 600-1,200, 200 ante

It may seem unbelievable, but Jeff Littlefield was just dealt pocket kings four out of the last five hands. We didn't just take his word for it; each time he showed them down.  Although one may hope to look down at cowboys that often, Littlefield actually came out on the losing end after the five hands.

After much discussion the odds of this situation are stillunclear.  The chances of being dealt any pocket pair are 220:1.  After consulting with Vanessa Rousso, a Duke graduate who studied game theory, she proposed a calculation where the denominator is 220 to the fourth power divided by 220.  If that formula is anywhere close to accurate, Jeff Littlefield just hit a one in 10 million shot.

Jena Delk Doubles Up

Level 8: 600-1,200, 200 ante

Soheil Shamseddin raises from late position, the small blind calls, and Jena Delk moves all in from the big blind for 16,000 more. Shamseddin thinks for a bit  before he calls, and the small blind folds. Shamseddin says, "Don't worry, you're ahead." Delk shows AheartAspade, and another player says, "She's way ahead." Shamseddin shows 6heart3heart, and he needs to improve to two pair or better to bust Delk here.

The flop comes 9heart9diamond4diamond, and Delk takes a deep breath as she sees all the red. The Kheart on the turn gives Shamseddin a flush draw, but the 8diamond on the river means the aces hold up.

Jena Delk doubles up to about 43,000 on the hand.
