Action begins today with players seated at 20 tables, with ten players at each. So our unofficial early count is 200 players. Registration remains open for the first two levels. Update: We originally posted that there were 14 tables in play, but that's just here in the Fontana Lounge. There are another six tables in the Bellagio poker room.

Shuffle Up & Deal!

Jack McClelland starts the day with some opening announcements, going over some of his standard rules (oversized chips, cell phone usage). Each player begins with 50,000 in chips, and the blinds start at just 50-100. The players are seated and ready to go, so it's time to shuffle up and deal!

World Poker Tour Championship Begins at Noon PDT

The first day of the $25,500 buy-in Word Poker Tour Championship begins in just a few hours at Bellagio in Las Vegas, and cards will get into the air shortly after noon PDT. The players will have deep stacks (50,000 in starting chips) and long levels (90 minutes) so there should be a lot of post-flop play featured in the tournament. Here is a look at the tentative schedule (Note: all preliminary days start at noon PDT): Day 1A: Five, 90-minute levels (Saturday, April 19). Day 1B: Five, 90-minute levels (Sunday, April 20). Day 2: Five, 90-minute levels (Monday, April 21). Day 3: Five, 90-minute levels (Tuesday, April 22). Day 4: Play down to 27 players. (Wednesday, April 23). Day 5: Play down to six players. (Thursday, April 24). Friday, April 23: Off Day (Production day for WPT Ladies Championship Final Table). Final Table: Play down to a champion (Saturday, April 25) Begins at 5 p.m. PDT. Last year Juan Carlos Mortensen took home a record $3,970,415, and became the first player ever to own both the WPT Championship title and a World Series of Poker main event gold bracelet. We will see what story lines emerge over the next week and you can follow along in all the live updates, chip counts, photos, and videos from Bellagio.
