A Look at the Player of the Year Contenders
Level 8: 300-600, 75 ante
Shannon Shorr nearly doubled up when he eliminated Kyle Julius during the last level, which put him near the top of the leaderboard and poised to make a deep run in this event. Shorr is one of the contenders for the WPT Player of the Year title, and a victory in this event would put him right on the heels of current POY points leader Andy Frankenberger.
Speaking of Andy Frankenberger, he was one of the six players who took advantage of late registration to sign up at the start of Day 2. If he finishes in the money (top 12 places), he'll be able to increase his POY points lead, making it that much tougher for anyone to catch him.
Gregory Brooks is the only player still alive in this event who could take the lead in the POY race, but it'll take a victory for him to do it. Brooks is 700 points behind Frankenberger, and a victory here is worth 800 points.
