Day 6 RECAP
Level 28: 400,000-800,000, 100,000 ante
After 8 hours of ALL IN’s and Double Up’s we have closed out the 6th day of the WPT World Championships. Today had some huge upsets and surprising twists. We are to the “final table? geared for broadcast tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 p.m. Amongst the players are; James Van Alstyne, Claus Neilson, Men “The Master? Nguyen, Davidson Matthew, Roland De Wolf, and Joseph Bartholdi. James Van Alstyne has been grinding away all week. His highlight had to be busting out Phil Hellmuth with the Nut flush when Hellmuth had a set. Van Alstyne proving that he is no novice but rather knows the game well and is not afraid to play his hands. He is currently our chip leader with over 8 million in chips. Claus Neilsen is an employee of Martin’s De Knijff Poker Team. He was on a very short stack earlier in the day and was expected to bust out a long time ago. Nonetheless, Neilsen is now 3rd in chips with just over 5.8 million. Men “The Master? Nguyen started the day on the bottom of the barrel and was able to drink himself to the final table. Vanessa Rousso saved him once when she went ALL IN right after he did and pushed Victor Ramdin out of the pot. Ramdin would have had the best hand and Nguyen would have been out. However, he made it through, doubled up a couple of times and is now joining us at the final table tomorrow afternoon. Davidson Matthew is our true underdog going into the tournament. Matthew won a $25 online Satellite and has been on a roller coaster ride all week. Doubling up from Erica Schoenberg early in the day and knocking out Dapo Fadeyi late yesterday. Roland De Wolfe, the only WPT winner(Grand Prix de Paris) at the final table, is hanging in there with 1.8 million in chips. Joseph Bartholdi came in today and started taking chips from everyone. Antonius, Rousso, Alstyne etc. No one could get a read on him. He now stands in second position with 7.1 million in chips. Our biggest upset of the day was the elimination of Vanessa Rousso on the T.V. bubble in 7th place. She went ALL IN with AK and was called by Alstyne with AJ. He sucked out with a Jack and sent her packing. Rousso made an enormous presence this week and we are sure to miss her but know that she will be back. Other upsets today were the elimination of Patrik Antonius who was amongst the chip leaders for the majority of the tournament. Rousso actually took him out of play when she made a trip 10’s against his pocket Ace’s. Erica Schoenberg was also sadly eliminated later in the day by Victor Ramdin. We will join Mike Sexton, Vince Van Patton, Courtney Friel and the WPT production team tomorrow to cover the live event. Six great players and over $8 million in cash prizes. Stay tuned for the most up-to-date live information from the 2006 WPT World Championships at the Bellagio Casino in Las Vegas. See you at the Final Table!
