Marchese Doubles Through Corkins To Regain the Chip Lead
Level 20: 6,000-12,000, 2,000 ante
Thomas Marchese opens the pot for 28,000 from the button, Hoyt Corkins three-bets to 100,000 from the big blind, Marchese four-bets to 208,000 and Corkins five-bets to 570,000.
Marchese looks puzzled and goes into the tank. "Why did you do that instead of shoving?" He thinks for another minute or so. "Eh, whatever, I'm all in," he says as he pushes his stack forward.
"I guess this is the tournament. I call," says Corkins as he shows AK. Marchese shows 1010 and Corkins shakes his head. "You got the best of it," he says.
The board comes Q10826, giving Marchese middle set, but not without a sweat for Corkins. Marchese gives a fist-pump as the tournament staff comes over to count and verify the stacks.
"Eight hundred and eighty one thousand? I don't wanna pay it," jokes Corkins as he gracefully ships the majority of his stack accross the table.
Marchese reclaims the chips that he lost to Corkins in the earlier million-chip pot, and regains the tournament chip lead.
