Three Players Registered on Day 2, One More En Route
Level 6: 200-400, 50 ante
Registration remains open until the end of this level, and so far, three players have taken advantage of it -- Bernard Lee, Curt Kohlberg, and Justin Schwartz. They started play with a little more than 25,000 in chips, which is currently worth about 62 big blinds. (The starting stack yesterday was 30,000, and there is a gaming control-approved formula in place to determine the size of late starting stacks.)
Lee and Kohlberg had a good reason for showing up late -- they made the final table of the WSOP Circuit Regional Championship near Chicago, which took place yesterday. Kohlberg finished fourth, earning $174,807, and Lee finished third, earning $236,368. They flew out to Foxwoods this morning, getting very little sleep.
Shannon Shorr was also at that final table, finishing sixth to earn $100,151, and he is en route to Foxwoods right now.
There is a rumor that this change was made at the last-minute to accommodate Bernard Lee, who has a sponsorship relationship with Foxwoods Casino, but it isn't true. The decision was made before the WSOP Circuit event started, so players who went deep in that event would have the option of continuing on to Foxwoods. In fact, the change in registration policy had to be approved ahead of time by Gaming Control.
So, just to clarify, late registration was not implemented for a single player.
