Battle of Chipleaders: Esther Taylor vs. Woody Vanstratum
Level 6: 300-600, 75 ante
With the board showing 5424 on the turn, Woody Vanstratum bets under the gun, and Esther Taylor raises an additional 33,000. Vanstratum calls.
The river card double-pairs the board with the 2, and Vanstratum checks. Taylor asks, "How much do you have there?" Vanstratum moves his chips to where they are clearly visible, and it looks to be about 50,000 or so. Taylor bets 45,000, and Vanstratum sighs and says, "Oh me, I don't know about this. I shouldn't have gotten involved in this hand, I guess."
Vanstratum thinks a bit and asks Taylor, "Do you have anything?" She shrugs and asks him, "Do you have eights?" Vanstratum says, "I really don't think you have anything," and he starts theorizing what she could have, starting with ace-king.
Seemingly frustrated, Vanstratum says he still thinks she's bluffing. "I don't know you that well, but you fired all four barrels. Any hand beats me. Any pair beats me." Vanstratum thinks for another moment and makes a move with his cards as if he's folding. "Alright, I'll let you have this one." He holds his cards out like he's going to fold, but he's still holding them. "Are you gonna show me?"
At this point, Taylor asks the dealer, "Was that a fold?" The dealer tells her that it's not a fold until he either says the words or releases the cards. Taylor's hesitation causes Vanstratum to pull his cards back and think for another 30 seconds or so.
Vanstratum finally comes to a decision and tosses his cards to the dealer. He tells Taylor that it would be good for the game if she shows the bluff, but Taylor keeps them face down as she slides them to the dealer.
They keep talking after the hand, and Vanstratum claims he had pocket sixes, and he's annoyed that he was trapped by a board that was entirely undercards. Taylor never says what she held, but claims that she really wanted Vanstratum to call off all his chips.
After the hand, Woody Vanstratum is down to about 50,000, while Esther Taylor is up to nearly 180,000.Sorted In: Beau Rivage, Southern Poker Championship, Season VII, Esther Taylor, Featured Blog, Woody Vanstratum
