WPT Fathers and Sons Recap
Level 6: 50,000-100,000, ante
The fight for father-son supremacy may not have been entirely settled today, but Barry Greenstein and Joe Sebok may have bridged the gap a little bit. Barry and Joe emerged from the field to become our WPT Fathers and Sons Champions, with Barry winning their heads up encounter after both moved all-in pre-flop without looking at their cards. Sebok and Greenstein defeated poker’s first family, the Brunsons, in a final that took a far more serious tone than the rest of the event. Entering with a 3:1 chip lead, Sebok put the pressure on Todd and chipped away at the Brunson stack before Barry subbed in and took Doyle down for the win. They chose the blind all-in approach because they didn’t want to be going at one another’s throats in an event whose spirit was ingrained in family. With the win, Greenstein received a $25,000 seat to the WPT World Championship. For Sebok, it meant a little something different, the capping achievement on a two year stretch of immense improvement. Mike Sexton called him the most improved player in poker during the post-game ceremonies. The statement is a fair one. Tomorrow, Barry and Joe will be in attendance as honorary family member Mimi Tran looks to win her first World Poker Tour event at the World Poker Finals. Coverage begins at 4PM EST, so be sure to check back then to catch all of the action.

Interview With the Champs
Level 6: 50,000-100,000, ante
Gary: So guys, how do you feel? Barry: We’re very happy to win. We continually had the best hand and it always held up. There’s no substitute for that in poker. Gary: Have you two ever played heads up before? Barry: Never. This was the first time. Gary: Joe, why the blind all-in? Joe: For obvious reasons, we have such a good relationship and the whole spirit of the tournament was father and son, so we decided that to go cutthroat and try to humiliate one another wasn’t the way this should end. Of course, if I knew I was going to pick up K2, I might have waited for the second hand. Gary: Joe, would Barry have had a prayer if you hadn’t moved in ‘in the spirit of family’? Joe (laughing): A slight chance. A small chance. If we play heads up, Barry’s obviously going to win (Barry protests to no avail) Gary: Does this mean the Greenstein-Sebok clan is the best poker family in the world? Barry: No, of course not. It means on this day we had good cards and things went our way. Gary: Were the Brunson’s over-hyped? Joe: The Brunson’s can never be over-hyped. In poker, they’re the number one father-son team. Today we just got good cards, but I think we showed we can at least be competitive. Gary: Barry, how far do you think Joe has come as a player over the last two years? Barry: Obviously a long way and he’s worked hard to get to this point. It wasn’t by osmosis, he wasn’t lazy about it. He really worked on his game. He’s now one of the top no-limit tournament players in the world. Gary: Oh yeah? Who’s better? Barry: I’m probably better, I’ve seen more situations. There are times he’ll make mistakes on inexperience, but that will come with time. Gary: Will part of your winnings be donated to children incorporated? Barry: The prize is the seat, which will be used for the entry. Hopefully we’ll parlay it into something for them.

A little on the side
Level 6: 50,000-100,000, ante
You know that the guys were playing this thing for real because they and friends had a few small bets going on the side. When Hoyt Corkins told me he had a piece of the Brunsons, I couldn't resist: I offered him another piece, with me getting team Greenstein-Sebok. he just dropped off my TEN WHOLE DOLLARS!!!! Thanks, Hoyt. Truth be told, I'm glad Joe and Barry won for another reason: I think we're going to see a lot more table talk here than we would have with silent Todd and Doyle. Barry and Joe are very close, interacting as friends as much as father and son. Barry told me before hand he wanted Joe to win, but I imagine he'll put up a fight.
