Prop Bet: How Many WPT Champions Are Still in the Field?
Level 12: 1,500-3,000, 400 ante
When there were still 100 players left in the tournament, Gavin Smith and Antonio Esfandiari bet on how many former WPT winners were still alive in this tournament. They set the line at 14, and Gavin had the over.
To settle their bet, we analyzed the field, and found 19 former WPT winners still alive. (There are 20, if you count Kristy Gazes' victory on the WPT Ladies Night.)
Here's the full list in the order that we found them walking through the field: Barry Greenstein, Doyle Brunson, Hoyt Corkins, Vivek Rajkumar, Vadim Trincher, Gavin Smith, Antonio Esfandiari, Carlos Mortensen, Scotty Nguyen, Nam Le, Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Howard Lederer, Steve Brecher, Mike Watson, Eric Hershler, Cornel Andrew Cimpan, Shawn Buchanan, Erik Seidel, and John Phan.
Gavin and Antonio were both surprised the number was so high -- 19% of the field already had a WPT title under their belt. But that's what happens when you have a stacked field like this one.
Since then, we've lost former WPT winners Howard Lederer and Cornel Andrew Cimpan. With 88 players left in the field, there are 17 former WPT winners still in the event (19.3%).
