When you're watching the show or the live stream, you might be wondering who that little guy is protecting Shawn Cunix's chips and cards. This soccer player actually had a previous life as a cake topper on Cunix's son's birthday cake.
As Cunix was telling tablemate Darren Elias before play began, he and his son were watching poker on TV and Cunix, who had no experience playing the game at that time, remarked to his son that it looked really cool and he wanted to play. Cunix's son was skeptical and pointed out that Cunix's job meant he couldn't devote the same amount of time to the game as the pros and suggested Cunix didn't stand much of a chance at winning.
Cunix set out to prove his son wrong and when he first started playing, he used the cake topper as a card protector. He won so much money during those early goings, that the soccer player has come with him to every event ever since.
