Table #49: Daniel Negreanu Crippled by James Mackey

Level 8: 600-1,200, 200 ante

Hasan Habib raises from late position to 3,200, Phil Ivey calls from the cutoff, and Moroun Jazzar reraises from the big blind to 12,200. Habib folds, and Ivey calls.

The flop comes Qdiamond9club2diamond, Jazzar bets 15,000, and Ivey calls. Both players check the Kspade on the turn and the 6club on the river. Jazzar shows AclubKheart to win the pot with a pair of kings, and Ivey mucks.

Moroun Jazzar  -  280,000  (233 bb)
Phil Ivey  -  146,000  (121 bb)

The next hand, James Mackey raises from early position to 3,000, Hasan Habib calls from middle position, Moroun Jazzar calls from the small blind, and Daniel Negreanu calls from the big blind.

The flop comes Jdiamond5club3diamond, Jazzar checks, Negreanu bets 6,500, Mackey calls, and Habib and Jazzar both fold. The turn card is the 7heart, Negreanu bets 12,000, and Mackey calls.

The river card is the 3club, Negreanu checks, and Mackey thinks for a bit before he subtly waves his hand to indicate that he's all in. Negreanu asks for an exact count, and the dealer counts it out as 37,800. Negreanu has a little less than 50,000 left in his own stack.

Negreanu tanks for several minutes, looking puzzled. Every once in a while, he'll look over to study Mackey for clues, but Mackey keeps his gaze averted and focused down toward his cards. After a few minutes of thought, Negreanu says something along the lines of "This hand doesn't make sense."

Negreanu confirms the amount of the all-in bet with the dealer. "Thirty-seven eight, right?" (37,800) The dealer nods. Negreanu studies Mackey a little more intensely, and then checks the board again. Finally, after nearly five minutes in the tank, Negreanu calls.

Mackey turns over QclubJclub for two pair, jacks and threes. Negreanu shows one card -- the Jheart -- and mucks, obviously outkicked. James Mackey wins the pot and cripples Negreanu.

James Mackey  -  125,000  (104 bb)
Daniel Negreanu  -  10,200  (8 bb)
