Daniel Negreanu Lays Down Middle Set

Level 1: 100-200, ante

Cliff Josephy, who is fresh off a win in the $5,000 prelim event, raises to 500, WPT Champions Club member Daniel Santoro calls on the button, Daniel Negreanu calls from the small blind, and the player in the big blind calls as well.

The flop comes AheartJdiamond8diamond and Negreanu checks. The player in the big blind bets 1,300 and Josephy calls. Santoro raises to 5,500 and action is on Negreanu. Negreanu check-raises to 14,000 and the player in the big blind gets out of the way. Josephy does not get out of the way. Instead, he reraises to 40,000, prompting santoro to fold.

Negreanu is at a loss as to what to do.  "You have a good hand I guess," he tells Josephy. Negreanu then stares down Santoro and the other player who was in the hand to try to get a read on what they may have laid down.  He thinks for a few more minutes and apologizes to the table for taking so long.

Josephy says nothing as Negreanu lifts up his hand and comments on how absurd the hand is.  He looks at his JheartJspade for middle set.  Negreanu comments on what the other two players in the hand might have had, implying that if one or both of them folded aces, it is increasingly less likely Josephy has him beat. Nonetheless, Negreanu folds his hand face up.

"I'll show you one," Josephy tells Negreanu, then flips over the Adiamond.

Negreanu doesn't need to see the other one, as he is certain Josephy had top set.  He gestures at Santoro and says, "What they hell were you doing down there?"

Josephy jokingly laments that Negreanu is too good and just about any other player would have gifted Josephy their entire stack.

Cliff Josephy - 125,000
Daniel Negreanu - 85,000
