Shooting Star Carlos Mortensen Eliminated by Shooting Star Phil Laak
Level 5: 100-200, 25 ante
Five players see a flop of 966 in a raised pot. Sam Stein, a player in middle position, Shooting Star Phil Laak and Eugene Katchalov all check to Carlos Mortensen, who is on the button.
Mortensen bets out 1,200, Stein folds and the player in middle position check-raises to 5,025. Laak calls behind him, Katchalov folds and Mortensen moves all-in for around 18,000 more. The check-raiser folds and action is on Laak.
"Matthew....," Laak calls out, summoning for tournament director Matt Savage. As Laak scans the room for Savage, Eli Elezra, who is also seated at the table, jokingly slides Laak's stack into the center of the table when Laak is not looking.
"Don't bother Savage," Eli jokes. "He's not going to call." At this point, Laak turns back around, sees his chips in the middle and says, "Woah," with a smile as he pulls his stack back.
At this point, Savage finally makes it over to the table to call the action and Laak quickly slides his chips back in the pot. Laak shows A6 for trip sixes, ace kicker, while Mortensen holds 68 for trip sixes, eight kicker. The turn brings the Q and the river the 4 and Mortensen is eliminated.
As Laak is collecting his chips and his $5,000, he tells the table this is his first-ever Shooting Star bounty, even though he has been taking part in this tournament for years.
