One of the quietest players on the tournament scene is Alex Jacob, who comes from an unassuming background. Always taking education seriously, he ended up at Yale University where he graduated with degrees in Economics and Mathematics. Though in his late teenage years and early twenties, poker became an important part of his life through games with friends and online, and before he during the time that he was completing his college courses, he was beginning to play on the tournament circuit.
Alex first burst onto the tournament scene with a 27th place finish at a World Poker Tour event " the 2005 World Poker Finals at Foxwoods. That first cash put more than $27,000 into his bankroll, but less than six months later, he would make an even bigger impact on the circuit. In April of 2006, he made it to the final table of the WPT Foxwoods Poker Classic main event and finished as the runner-up in the tournament for more than $650,000.
Also in 2006, Alex cashed twice at the World Series of Poker, two of those being final tables in hold'em events. And his big win was just around the corner; he won the 2006 United States Poker Championship $10,000 main event for a whopping $878,500 and a coveted title. Since that time and because of his launch at the WPT tournaments, Alex has become a fixture on the circuit, recognized for his quiet but concentrated demeanor, eccentric hair, and pure poker talent. He cashed three times at the 2007 WSOP, which included one final table in the $1,500 no-limit hold'em event, and the poker world is realizing that this young player will be a force in the business for some time.
