There are many reasons that Bryan Devonshire is so well-liked on the tournament circuit – genuine personality, passion for poker, excitement for life, and a true respect for others in the game. He also has many different passions that fit into his poker life – riding his motorcycle, adventuring into the wilderness, hunting, music, meeting new people, and learning to fly an airplane. There never seems to be a dull moment in Bryan’s life story or his poker story.
At only 26-years old, Bryan tried college and had numerous jobs in the past, jobs like whitewater rafting guide in California, wilderness guide in Colorado, and camp guidance counselor. But at a time in Colorado when jobs were hard to come by, he took a casual interest in poker from the local casinos to the online poker community and found instant success. With a net of $2,000 in the first month and $3,000 in the following month, he decided to stop looking for other work. Eventually, his interest in making the game into more of a lifestyle prompted a move to Las Vegas, and he has found more success on the live tournament circuit.
In 2006, Bryan played in the WSOP casino employees event and placed second. The prize money was more than $66,000, which padded his bankroll nicely and encouraged him to continue his tournament efforts. In 2007, he placed second again at the WSOP, but this time it was in a $1500 Omaha hi-lo split 8-or-better event and made a valiant effort that was squashed only by aggressive Russian player Alex Kravchenko. Since then, he has set his sights on the World Poker Tour, and in March of 2008, he made it to the final table of the Reno World Poker Challenge, where he again place second, but this time to seasoned pro Lee Markholt. A few months later, he finished 12th at the WPT World Championship event, and traveled up to Canada to win a preliminary event at the WPT Coast to Coast Poker Championships. With a winning attitude and a true passion for the game, a win could be just around the corner on Bryan’s journey.
