The WPT’s annual trek to Barcelona may be called the Spanish Championship, but lately it has been the Scandinavians dominating the field. Casper Hansen of Horsens, Denmark was one of the first Scandis to thrive in Barcelona, winning the Spanish Championship title in Season VII. The then-25-year-old defeated Swede Stefan Matsson heads-up for the title and the top prize of €425,000.

The win at Barcelona was not Hansen’s first appearance at a major final table. One year prior, Hansen made it to the final day of play at EPT Dublin, but exited in ninth place at the hands of another Scandinavian poker prodigy, Annette Obrestad. Between 2005 and 2008, Hansen picked up over $750,000 in tournament earnings. Lately, Hansen has been off the poker radar, with his last cash coming in the fall of 2008 in his home country at the Danish Championships.
