A native of Scottsdale, Arizona, Charles Jett wasn't sure where life would take him or what his career was meant to be, but with a nickname like Chip that he received at birth, it was almost destiny that he end up in the poker world. He spent time as a lifeguard until he became aware of a job dealing poker that was much more lucrative. He worked in an Arizona Indian casino for three years but found that he spent more time playing poker than dealing. By the time he turned 21, he was playing poker on a full-time basis and beginning to tour the country with the tournament circuit.
Eventually, Chip met Karina, a fellow poker pro, and they married. Today, they are one of the most recognizable couples in poker and now live in Vegas with their two young children. They share parenting duties while he travels on the circuit and Karina plays cash games in Vegas or on tour. Chip's career seemed to take off from the moment he hit the circuit, as his first recorded final table was at the California State Poker Championship in 2000 where he made the final table and finished in fifth place. The cashes and wins accumulated from there.
The poker world at large became aware of Chip when he made a World Poker Tour final table in 2003 on the PartyPoker Million II cruise, coming in second place for over $175,000 " his biggest payday to that point in his career. The same year, he made two World Series of Poker final tables, then made another WPT final table at the Legends of Poker which was good for a third place finish. Still in 2003, he cashed in eleventh place at the WPT Borgata Poker Open, then eight place at the Five Diamond World Poker Classic, just missing another televised table by two spots. While a major tournament title has remained only slightly out of reach, there is no doubt that Chip is in hot pursuit of it and will continue to be one of the most popular and well-respected players on the tournament circuit.
