For Dan Coupal, it was a pretty simple life. He took in the sun and the competition on the golf courses around his native Saskatchewan. He enjoyed as many water sports as he could find. He played poker when he found the time. Then, one day, he did what a lot of young men of his era did. He sat down to watch the movie "Rounders." As Mike McD. made his way through the fictional world of underground poker on the way to even more fictional riches, Coupal found himself hooked.

He was a law student at the time he made World Poker Tour history. Season 1 of the soon-to-be blockbuster poker program was underway and Coupal won his way onto the Party Poker Million cruise ship. A few days later, Coupal sat at the final table. At the time, he believed that he and his fellow young poker players would be changing the poker world forever. Although the World Poker Tour was still in its infancy, Coupal's presence among the final six was significant. He was the youngest person at the time to ever sit in one of the final six seats.

Coupal's sixth place finish on the Party Poker Million earned him more than $43,000. Since then, the poker world hasn't seen Coupal on a regular basis. Still he has managed to make the money boards in the World Series of Poker, the Aussie Millions, and several small tournaments.
