Danny Nguyen moved from his birthplace in Vietnam to the United States in 1981 to seek a better life and all of the opportunities that American had to offer. He landed in San Jose, California, which is where he has remained ever since. Upon his first attempt at looking for work, he was alerted to an opening at the Bay 101 card room, so he applied and began working as a poker dealer. As he watched players for many years, noting the styles and skills of those who won, he finally decided to take his own turn on the felt.
In the 1990's, Danny proved that he truly did absorb much of the information he took in as a dealer by doing well at the cash games. And in 1998, he tried his first tournament and cashed for twice the buy-in amount. From then on, he knew that tournaments were a viable option for him, but it wasn't until 2005 that everyone else would know it, too.
Danny played in the WPT's Bay 101 Shooting Stars of Poker event when it came to his home town of San Jose in March of 2005. With the support of his friends, he used his aggressive style and years of poker knowledge to plow through the field and find himself at the final table. In the end, he emerged victorious, winning over $1 million and a prestigious WPT title. With a newfound bankroll and some security for his family that consisted of four children, he quit his job and took to the tournament circuit on a full-time basis. Since then, he has numerous cashes " and another win " to his credit.
