David Plastik is the place where rock and roll meets poker. While he may have poker chips in his eyes now, he spent the 1980s with the music of the decade burned into his retinas. Back then, Plastik was one of the most sought-after rock and roll photographers in the business. His life behind the lens put him on the road with some of the world's best-known bands. His photography appeared everywhere from Hit Parader to Rolling Stone magazine. The Queens-born shutterbug left the rock and roll life after it got to be a bit much for him. He ended up going to work for his father's textile business.
While working as a fabric salesman, Plastik found Commerce Casino in California. While he recognized he wasn't very good at the game, he believed he could be. So, with the zeal with which he toured the music world, Plastik set about turning himself into a good poker player. It didn't happen immediately and most of his income continued to come from selling textiles. However, after his father's death, Plastik lost his drive to sell. With some money he'd saved, he decided to try out the professional poker life. He made $100,00 his first month on the road after a final table at the Taj Mahal.
Though he has had many ups and downs in his poker career, Plastik remains in the poker world and continues to post wins in major events. In 2004, he took seventh place in the Bay 101 Shooting Star WPT event, just bubbling the TV table. He has won more than $1.7 million playing tournament poker.
