Dwyte Pilgrim promised poker fans he was going to shock the world when he final tabled the Borgata Poker Open. Shock he did. Like a boxer, Pilgrim bobbed and weaved his way through the final table and did so with style. His aggressive poker play and his memorable table talk helped him take down the largest-field event in WPT history. Not only did Pilgrim beat 1,041 competitors and earn $733,802, he played the starring role in what Mike Sexton called the best final table in WPT history.

Pilgrim’s poker career really does mirror the story of a fighter working their way up the ranks. Pilgrim made a name for himself on the WSOP Circuit. The Brooklyn native cut his teeth playing events in Atlantic City, ultimately winning his first WSOP-C ring there in 2008. He followed that up with a second ring in AC just a few months later. A year later, Pilgrim earned ring number three with his seventh WSOP-C cash in just 15 months.

After continued success in the so-called minor leagues, Pilgrim began dipping his toe in major events, picking up two victories in prelims at the WPT’s Southern Poker Championship in 2010. A few months later, Pilgrim unleashed his “Gracie jiu-jitsu” brand of poker on Borgata and a star was born. If you have any doubt of Pilgrim’s skills, just take a glance at his hand.
