Heung Yoon was born and raised in South Korea but came to the United States when he was 17-years old to attend and finish high school. Upon his arrival in America, he gave himself the nickname “Scott” because it was easier for teachers and friends to understand and pronounce. After finishing school, he worked to support his family and finally went into the real estate business where he has now been a real estate agent for five years to support his wife and two sons.
In Scott’s spare time three years ago, he began playing a little poker online. Soon, he became interested in cash games and small buy-in tournaments, so he would make the three and a half hour drive from Virginia to Atlantic City to play at the Borgata, usually once a month. His biggest cash to date was in a $100 buy-in tournament where he took home a $1600 prize at the Taj Mahal. In 2007, when he saw that the WPT was coming to town and satellites would be running, he decided to give it a chance.
Scott ended up winning a $240 satellite at the Borgata, which catapulted him into a seat in the WPT $10,000 buy-in main event at the Borgata Poker Classic. He worked his way through the field, all the while being a little surprised at how he progressed all the way to the final table. Even though he was literally living a dream being on television, he stayed calm enough under the lights and cameras to make it to second place, which was good for a $832,725 payday and the biggest cash of his poker life. He continues to play poker as often as his schedule allows, most often in the Atlantic City casinos that keep him fairly close to home.
