When Jani was only seven years old, he watched his father play poker with their neighbors and wanted desperately to join the games. As he matured, he played poker with friends but found sports, namely football, to satisfy his need for competition. In adulthood, he worked as an internet product manager for a number of years, which was hard work and took time away from his family. In 2001, he began to hone his poker skills at cash games and knew that he would be a pro player someday.
In March of 2005, Jani made that dream come true and began making a substantial living as a professional poker player. Nicknamed "Hellraiser" for his proclivity to raising and playing aggressive poker, he never stopped learning more about the game. By befriending and watching other Finnish pro players, he improved his own game and decided to add tournaments to his repertoire. In order to feed his craving for sports, he also enjoys sports betting and spends a great deal of time watching ice hockey and football. All the while, he is proudest that his nine-year old son is his biggest fan and fellow poker player in the making.
Prior to his decision to make poker his full-time job, Jani traveled to play in the Monte Carlo Millions in November of 2004 where he won the entire event, defeating Juha Helppi and securing a prize of $400,000. Since that performance and his subsequent dive into pro poker, he has been swimming with the big fish and making a splash. He cashed in the 2005 WSOP no limit hold'em main event, then made his television debut at the final table of the 2006 WPT Grand Prix de Paris
