Hailing from Philadelphia, John Hennigan began playing pool at an early age and quickly moved from pool hustling to professional billiards. As a young adult, he craved competition and was drawn to gambling, which eventually led him to try his hand at poker in Atlantic City. He quickly improved his game and found that his steady income from cash games allowed him to make a combined career out of poker and pool.

John played poker professionally for many years and earned the respect of local Atlantic City players through his humble and low-key demeanor at the tables. It wasn't until the 1990's that he decided to put his skills to the test at tournament poker. His first cash was in the $1500 limit hold'em event at the World Poker Finals in Foxwoods " third place for more than $11,000, and accumulated several cashes at the World Series of Poker in the next few years.

Finally in 2002, John won his first WSOP bracelet, one that would show his diversified poker abilities and begin to solidify his accomplishments in the record books " a win in the $2000 H.O.R.S.E. event. The following month, he found himself at the final table of the WPT's Five Diamond World Poker Classic where he finished fourth. Eventually, he would one-up himself in both categories. He won another WSOP bracelet in 2004 in the $5000 limit hold'em event for $325,000 " his biggest cash to date. And in 2007, he reached another final table, this time at the Borgata Poker Classic, and this time winning it for over $1.6 million. While John remains one of the most modest players in the game, his poker resume consistently shows that he is a force to be reckoned with at any table.
