Donaldson started playing poker at a local game in his home town. He took a 30-year break from the game, but he has recently returned to playing in public card rooms. Since his return to poker, he has had quite a few first place finishes in tournaments across the country.

Donaldson made a World Poker Tour final table during Season One. He shared the spotlight at that final table with Dave "Devilfish" Ulliot and Phil Ivey. Donaldson finished third in the Gold Strike World Poker Open, winning more than $145,000. During Season Four of the WPT, Donaldson barely missed the final table of the same event, going out in seventh place.
