Larry Klur can do more than read a poker player's face. He can also offer his opponents advice on the best topical cream to use to hide the dark circles under their eyes. A career-long cosmetics executive and company owner, Klur spent a lifetime thinking about face creams before he started thinking about face cards. Though he'd played seven-card stud off and on, it wasn't until he retired from the cosmetics industry that Klur picked up Texas Hold 'Em. A poker hobbyist with serious game, Klur splits his time between the poker felt and the links, He said, "I'm a hacker, I shoot in the high 80s or low 90s, but I have a hell of a lot of fun. I enjoy golf as much as I enjoy Texas Hold 'Em" While he may enjoy both games equally, there is a stark difference "Fame, fame doesn't affect me. I'd rather knock off five shots on my golf handicap. I'd give up poker before I would give up golf." While poker may fall second to golf in some ways, it is a clear first when it comes to Klur's competitive sprit. "In poker, I'm more competitive," Klur said. "I have an opportunity to really knock people out and win a tournament, even if it's only ten people. Golf, no matter how hard I try to be competitive, I'm not going to beat the guys who are five and eight shots better than I am." If Klur needed any more proof he can be more competitive in poker, he found it on the WPT and at the age of 68 made his first World Poker Tour final table at Foxwoods Poker Classis in Season four.
