Michael Simon was born in Fall River, Massachusetts and grew up in a poker-playing family. His father, a barber by trade, used to play frequent home games and rub his son's head for good luck, so Mike was exposed to poker at quite the early age. He actually learned to play by the age of 11 or 12 by watching his father play seven-card stud. Soon after, he was playing with friends and occasionally sitting in on his father's $10/$20 game, one time winning a few thousand dollars. He has been hooked on poker ever since.
Mike became a baker but always played poker, even paying his way through baking school by playing poker, blackjack, and going to the racetrack. Being a baker has been good to him through the years, and he thoroughly enjoys his trade. Poker is a hobby but something that he takes more seriously each time he plays.
Back in 1990, Mike made his first tournament final table during a trip to Vegas; he finished fifth in the Amarillo Slim Superbowl of Poker. He also cashed in a small tournament in 2003, but it was in 2006 during a World Poker Tour stop at Reno that he would truly make his mark on the world of poker. He played in the World Poker Challenge main event and emerged as the ultimate victor, not only claiming his first tournament title but taking home over $1 million in prize money. He has since played in several WPT invitationals and other main events, but he enjoys the experience just as much as his day job as a baker. That's what matters - Mike is very happy with his choices and his life.
