The US WPT Season IX schedule kicked off with a bang as Bellagio Cup produced a top notch final table that included Phil Ivey making his ninth WPT final table appearance and Justin Smith making his second consecutive Bellagio Cup final table appearance. While Smith improved upon his third place finish in Season VIII, it was Moritz Kranich who walked away with the victory and the limelight. The German pro bested Smith heads-up to pick up the first domestic WPT title of the season as well as $875,150.

Kranich is no stranger to tournament success. The German pro picked up his first major win in January of 2009 when he took down the EPT Deauville Main Event for more than €850,000. Kranich and WPT London victor Jake Cody both won the EPT Deauville events, then went on to pick up WPT titles over the course of Season IX.

After just four years of tournament poker, Kranich is already one of the most successful German pros in history with over $2.1 million in lifetime tournament earnings.
