Nenad Medic was born in Apatin, Serbia but grew up in the area of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. For most of his younger years, he struggled with the direction in which he wanted his life to go. While he was athletic and sports-minded, with goals of playing professional basketball after college, there was always a part of him that knew he would simply put his heart and soul into whatever opportunities were presented to him and do his best.
He did play college basketball for several years while attending Waterloo University. Though he entertained dreams of playing in the NBA, the realization began to set in that it was not going to happen. But it was during those years that he found poker, playing in small cash games and $5 tournaments with his teammates. Never one to shy away from a challenge, he took to poker and decided to put some effort into improving his game. He deposited $75 online and developed that investment into a sizable bankroll. His goal was to be known as a good poker player with a solid grasp of the game, as well as a person who respects the game. With all of that in mind, he turned to the World Poker Tour and traveled to the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in January of 2005. Not only did he excel, but he did better than most by making it to the final table of the main event and finishing in sixth place for a $112,500 payday.
While Medic’s short but accomplished career in poker has included several World Series of Poker cashes, along with a third place finish at the 2006 Aussie Millions championship event, it has been the World Poker Tour where he has experienced the most success. In November of 2006, he found himself at another WPT final table, this time in Foxwoods at the World Poker Finals. He ended up winning the event to claim his first major tournament title and over $1.7 million. And only one year later, he almost did what no other player has done on the WPT thus far – win back-to-back titles. He ended up finishing in third at the Season VI World Poker Finals, but the impressive showing let the poker world know that he is no young one-hit wonder. The Serb is here to stay for awhile.
