Paul Darden's life began as the antithesis of the calm that he now experiences in the world of poker. His youth was rough, being enticed by a world of drugs and crime that stopped him in his tracks at the age of 15. After being accused of murder, he was eventually acquitted on the basis of mistaken identity but the experience shaped his life and kept him from returning to the mean streets. He took the poker skills that his father taught him at 8-years old and began to put them to work in the back room of his father's club, taking his time to study the game from the local patrons. When Foxwoods opened, Paul frequented the poker room there, honing his skills at seven-card stud and slowly moving up in cash game levels. Finally, with a bit of a bankroll, he moved his game to the Atlantic City casinos where he befriended Phil Ivey. Phil would become somewhat of a mentor to Paul, as well as a motivator to try his hand at tournaments, specifically the World Series of Poker. In 2001, he did just that and cashed in two events but won the $2500 seven-card stud event for his first WSOP bracelet. Paul's list of poker accomplishments continued to grow, and when the World Poker Tour began, he was right there. He just missed the TV table of the first Legends of Poker event but made it to the WPT Gold Rush tournament final table at Lucky Chances Casino where he won the event. As his name and image flooded the poker world when the WPT was first broadcast, his reputation as a feared poker player became even more well-known. His list of poker wins and cashes includes several U.S. Poker Championship titles and continues to show his ability to excel at a variety of poker games. One of his biggest goals in 2007 is to win another WPT title, and poker fans everywhere anxiously await that appearance.
