Paul Maxfield was born and raised in England, originally from Stoke-on-Trent. He lived most of his life on the straight and narrow, obtaining a university degree in Finance, then topping it off with a real estate license. He spent the majority of his career in the pharmaceutical business, proudly having started a company with his brother in which they manufacture machines for the top names in that industry. Being the director of the company occupied a good deal of his time, though he always found some to spend at the poker tables.

Paul's passion for the game took him to tournaments around the world when it was possible, and his resume of tournament cashes dates back to 1994. His consistency and dedication showed in the results of his efforts, and finally, in 2004, the wins began accumulating. He won the Euro Finals of Poker in Paris at the European Hold'em Championships for over $100,000, then did the same at the Midlands Medley in Walsall for another $75,000. With such a boost to his game, he took a trip to the 2004 World Series of Poker where he cashed in three events " limit hold'em, pot-limit Omaha, and Omaha hi-lo split, including two final tables.

In 2005, Paul would accomplish something in poker that would change his life. He traveled to Las Vegas to play in the World Poker Tour's $25,000 buy-in World Championship main event, making it through the field to sit at the final televised table. In the end, he took second place to Tuan Le but took home nearly $1.7 million for his efforts. Paul quit his job, though he still participates in the family business to a certain degree. Most often, he can be spotted at tournaments around the world, which is where he is comfortable, respected, and sitting behind stacks of chips.
