When the video game Pac-Man was popular, poker pro Pete Lawson was in diapers. Today, you might hear folks calling the 24-year-old by the same name as the little, yellow, dot-eating video game character of two decades ago. Maybe it has something to with the fact that Lawson can collect chips as fast as Pac-Man can clear a screen. In fact, he got the nickname for a whole different reason. He's the first to admit, he's a little guy with a big mouth. At just 24 years old, the child of the 80s learned how to play poker in the town of Clinton, Mississippi. After watching countless players in his native Magnolia State win tens of thousands of dollars, Lawson decided to get in the game. After spending time as a personal trailer, Lawson eventually moved himself out west and closer to the big poker tournaments. He began working on his game and playing a mix of erratic play and basic math that confounded his opponents. Over time, Lawson honed his game both online and in live card rooms. It wasn't long before Lawson's game paid off. His first big score came on the World Poker Tour in 2004. Lawson made the final table at the Bicycle Casino's Legends of Poker Tournament after winning his entry-fee in a satellite tournament. The youngest player at the table by a full 15 years, Lawson placed third and won more than $270,000. Since then, Lawson has continued to tear up the tournament circuit. Since his big score on the World Poker Tour, Lawson has put together half a million dollars in winnings, including a final table finish at the 2007 World Series of Poker Pot-Limit Hold'em event.
