He is considered by many to be one of the most underrated players in the world today but poker is his second career. Randy attended law school at FSU in Tallahassee and then worked his way through the Florida state government. After a seven year stint in Florida's Department of Banking he decided at 40 to take a year off to play poker. As there was no public poker in Florida, Randy started out playing very low limit home games and didn't actually play poker in a casino until he attended a convention in Las Vegas in 1984. While he was there he tried his luck at the poker tables and walked away $100 richer. Since that first experience Randy has had many good tournament finishes including many wins. Randy focused on Pot Limit Omaha until coming to Los Angeles in 1998. He then began to concentrate on No Limit Hold'em cash games and tournaments. He prefers the tournaments where his strong and steady style pays off. He constantly improves his play by adapting to the game and the players. Randy says that he was influenced by the aggressiveness of John Bonetti and the patience of T.J. Cloutier but learns from everyone. He works to maintain his discipline and tries not to fabricate a hand when he's not catching his cards. He is considered by his peers to be a top player, excelling in Seven Card Stud, Seven Card Hi-Lo Stud and Razz. His achievements include two WSOP bracelets and titles - winning Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo events in 1996 and 2000. Randy won the 2001 World Poker Open Stud Hi-Lo Championship and the 2002 and 2003 Limit Hold'em titles at the Poker Classic in Los Angeles. He also won the 2004 Grand American Poker Classic in No Limit Hold'em and the Poker Derby in No Limit Hold'em. In 2006 Randy made his first World Poker Tour final table, coming in fifth place at the Legends of Poker tournament and winning over $175,000 at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles.
