SShandor Szentkuti may not be a poker pro, but he his legacy rests in a 52-card deck. By age six, he was playing poker with his dad. By age nine, he was beating his mother in games of Gin. As soon as he turned 21, Szentkuti started heading for the card rooms in his native San Francisco. All along, though, it was just a fun hobby. Most of Szentkuti's time was spent living a typical thirty-something's life. He ran a residential contracting company and restored old homes. He enjoyed time with his wife and two daughters. He even took a judo class. Still, though, a couple of nights a week, he headed off to a card room and bought into a $1,000 no-limit game and battled with the locals. Szentkuti came home from those games as a winner, but never considered going pro, even though he was about to take home a professional-sized paycheck. When Season 3 of the World Poker Tour landed at his nearby Bay 101 Casino, Szentkuti decided to head down for the WPT Shooting Star event. After a couple days of fighting through some of the toughest competition on the planet, Szentkuti ended up at the final table. A few hours later, Szentkuti had finished in fourth place and won nearly $300,000. While he never turned pro, he should never have to worry about his bankroll in his local game again.
